ADVANTAGES OF OPTICAL FIBERS OVER CONVENTIONAL CO-AXIAL CABLE COMMUNICATION
The optical fiber communication has lot of advantages over conventional or traditional co-axial cable communication.
- In Optical fiber communication, the optical or light waves are used as carrier waves. We know the frequencies of these optical waves are very high so they can extreme band width compare to co-axial cable system. In co-axial cable communication low frequency waves are used so they less band width.
- Optical fibers are less in weight and flexible so they can be handled very easily compare to copper cables.
- Optical fibers are insulators so, they have more life compare to co-axial or copper cable communication.
- There is no effect of atmospheric disturbances on optical fibers; where as on copper cables there is effect of temperature, humidity etc.
- In Optical fiber communication cross-talk is not possible.
- Optical fibers very easy to maintain also much safer than copper cables.
